Following the SSHRC-CURA award in 2009, Kwantlen became the lead of a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, and multi-partnership project; Acting Together: Prevention of Youth Gang-involvement. Dr. Bhatt will highlight : • the rationale and the process of bringing together academic experts and community partners, • multiple research streams – some findings, • training-education components, and The presentation will conclude with a conversation with members of the audience. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Dr. Gira Bhatt completed her MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Bombay. She received her second MA and PhD from the Simon Fraser University specializing in Social Psychology. Currently she is a faculty in the Applied Psychology degree program at Kwantlen and the Principal Investigator/ Project Director for “Acting Together”; a federally funded Community-University Research Alliance (CURA) project. She was nominated for the YWCA “woman of Distinction” Award in 2008 for Education and Training, and received Mehfil Magazine’s 2010 award for Excellence in Research Innovation.
