The Call Taking Basics for Emergency Services – Police presents an overview of the knowledge that police call takers will need beginning their careers. Topics identified include: teamwork, critical incident stress, questioning techniques, problem solving, liability, criminal and civil law, as well as managing emergency calls and technical language used in police call taking, to name a few. This text is a brief compilation of some of the materials used in the Public Safety Communications Program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, with a focus on police call taking. Common incident types and how they are processed is covered in the material.
